Proposal For Final Piece

My idea is to use a base from a chair, where I will work with it on the floor using the base like a canvas by creating layers of beeswax. I will then involve everyone from the class by asking them to one by one to carve their own interpretation of a bum into the layer of beeswax. By doing this one by one I will be adding a new layer each time to portray its history of people coming and going sitting on the chair. Imitating the impression on the chair of the bum and rising again as someone leaves. I would like to use beeswax as I like the qualities of the softness and colour

  1. You need to make some more comments specifically on the audiences issues. An easy way to start is to comment on the GB Audiences blog as that's sort of what its there for. Once you get going it gets easier.

  2. Perhaps a way of tying this work into the brief is to think a bit more about the situation, the setting for the chair.
This raises several questions for me. You are using the class as audience at the moment, you could say that they are an art audience. Is this the audience you want? What kind of a response do you think you will get from them? What about an art audience that was not made up of your classmates and not so predisposed to be kind? What would happen in a situation in a gallery, as a performance, and what role would you play and how would you play it?
Are there restrictions? What are the limits of the work? Could you do this with children or young people? How will you entice people to do this, what if they don't want to? etc.
Try answering some of these questions (for yourself)

  3. Try and let yourself respond to the audiences issue unselfconsciously. Remember Thursday is a seminar day. You will need to comment on how you are taking this forward.
