By hanging my work i've had to make final decisions of how to present to the veiwer, so that it can visual capture the meaning behind the work in the easyest way that i can by its display. The bottles and chair connect even though the bottles are hanging on the wall and the chair beening on the floor. Therefore the is chair situatated in the center of the floor facing the wall of bottles. i feel that the chair stands as if it were a 'veiwer', veiwing the work. This creates an interesting setup for my audience to work with, maybe bring questions about the artwork. I do feel that there will always be questions unawsered for the audience unknown to my work.

30/04/09Audience
I talked to Louisa about different ways of presenting my work at both of the locations St James Hospital and at college. We discuss how I’m presenting the photographs to the wall by having two nails either side at the bottom of each photo. The nails will be 1cm proud from the wall. They photos will be resting against the end of the nails at a slant against the wall. The black & white photographs contrast well with the metal grey nails, so the presentation I feel is visual interesting for the viewer. I think this is an unusual way of displaying photographs. I also discuss with Louisa my 100 words that will be accessible to people interested in the artwork at the hospital site. My final words that will be refer to my work are:
Emma Snowdon used photography to capture the history of people coming and going from a chair. People left their presence on the wax base of the chair by creating marks. They then were bottled and laybled to preserve the moment. Through this wax material their ever-changing presence is melted away.
We then looked at ways of hanging my glass bottles against the wall, and Louisa mention about resizing the labels and the adjusting the writings on the labels. I found that I begun to sort things out in my head through talking to Louisa which was very helpful for me.

One and Three Chairs, 1965, work by Joseph Kosuth


The historical context of the documentation of One and Three Chairs shows a photograph of a chair, writings from a dictionary explaining information of what a chair means and the original chair. These different visuals of the chair are captured within the final photograph. In relation to having my work contextualized with Kosuth work my feelings are that it’s interesting to see how the artists looked at chairs and how he has shown the chairs in different formats to audience. I can see how critics would relate the work, as both works are looking at documenting but Kosuth shows the chair as it was by using different formats. Where my work is about creating a new history and documenting this by bottling and labelling to preserve the moment. I have begun to realize that I am displaying my work to several audiences does matter as I am displaying my black & white photographs at St James hospital which my audience wont be from an art background. So it was important to make sure that the viewer can understand the piece better by writing 100 words explaining what the piece is about. The photos mirror the waiting area as the photos show people sitting, waiting, and thinking. I feel that the people in the hospital will be able to relate to the images in this way.
