New Locations to be continued....................

Location: Henry Moore Institute & Leeds Art Gallery

This location targets both a general audience but also to a more specific art interested audience as the wax chair would be situated outside both of the Art galleries. This location may be easier to get involvement from the public as it’s within the surroundings of where two art galleries are, this may invite other types of audience from the attraction of the art interested audience. I think overall this may become interesting to see if people react in the way I think it might.

Location: Briggate

This central shopping location would bring quite a varied audience which would included different age groups, shoppers, workers, students ect. I think the outcomes from this audience would be challenging as many people may pass by with out involvement, but some might not understand why and what they are taking part in as they may not come from an artistic background. Although these thoughts may come across negative, I feel that this challenging audience would create very interesting results.

Locations with different audiences

Today I’m going to check out some of the locations in which I talked about in one of my earlier blogs. I'm going to take visuals of the location and some how see who my audience will be at the time the photographs are taken. From when the first photo is taken I might re-visit the same location more than once through out the day. To get an idea of what the wax chair will look like I’m going to Photoshop the wax chair into the ordinal photograph. I will blog later on a few of my location that I’ve visited…..

Photos of my current Audience

Whilst people have been getting involved I have been documenting:
• Them sitting on the chair.
• What they’ve carved.
• Their chosen glass bottle with their carved out wax within the bottle and label.
I feel that through documenting this by using black and white photography I’ve ended up having to separate mediums in which can be shown apart from each other in different locations. I will do this by having the Black and White prints shown in St James hospital and my wax chair and glass bottles at the College for are dNA exhibition. I feel that this will work as it divides both of the works, and allows the viewer to view them on their own.

Who could be my Audience

As this piece can be seen as a performance I’m in control of who to target as my audiences but not at what the outcomes may be for that specific audience. I can get different outcomes by situating the wax chair in different locations which could include i.e. In town centers, In a gallery, Schools, Pubs, Art fairs, Shops, libraries, uni’s, hospitals, churches, vets, at cinemas, museums, parks ect. These locations will have a big impact on the type of audiences in which I will get from each different location but also the overall outcomes of how people react to this performance. Although I’ve already chosen my audience which is within the class this becomes art audience but before I’d decided on using the class I didn’t really think about my audience in the way I’m beginning to think about it. I now feel that I may be able to create a series at of the wax chair by using different audience each series by putting the wax chair into new environments.
I'm going to look into my different audiences and try to answer questions in which a few will be:
• What I think the response will I get from each audience?
• What would happen in the situation of each location?
• How would I entice people in these different audiences?

where my work is

My work has developed by using the chair as a whole, and having only one thick layer of wax on the base of the chair. I've included a collections of old glass bottles, and labels. I've asked people to come along chose a glass bottle, and a label then to sit on the wax chair for as little or as long as they like but asked them to document the time they started to the time finish. Once they’ve finished sitting on the chair, I’ve asked them to visual express their thoughts that they may of had whilst sitting on the chair. I want everyone to show their thoughts by carving into the wax base then after doing this to put the wax they have carve out into their glass bottle. I will then after each person who has carved into the base re-heat the wax so that what they have carve is destroyed and unable to been seen again. By doing this there is issues of a presence and absence but to me this process is about capturing and creating the history of people coming and going who have sat on the chair.
